Oslo is 2019’s ‘European Green Capital’ and it’s little wonder. In the Norwegian capital they’re serious about tackling climate change. Here every aspect of life is measured against its impact on the environment, and budget decisions are tied to climate outcomes.
Already bicycles are given precedence over cars, buses are powered by recycled sewage, and roads carry more electric vehicles, per capita, than anywhere else in the world.
The city government has set a highly ambitious emissions reductions target (carbon neutral by 2030) and is working hard and fast to achieve it.
Right now Oslo is an attractive place to live and to visit. In the not too distant future, it’s likely to be even better.

In 1993 or so we went on a canoeing tour in Sweden for three weeks in a lake district not far from Oslo. After three weeks of paddling, eating rice and lentils with pemmican (dryed beef with sugar and fat) and only two grocery shops on our way, we went to Oslo and into a chinese restaurant. Food was expensive but drinks were extremely expensive. So we ordered food but no drinks. Some minutes later the waiter came with two large glasses – tap water on the rocks + lemon slices. No charge for tap water, he said with a large smile. What a nice welcome back in civilization after three weeks of little contact to mankind!

Pity our current government doesn’t have the same ideals…

How beautiful and calm!
The statues are fantastic and I guess look very different again in the warmer seasons.
