An hour after we landed in Lisbon we were sitting at a slightly rickety table on a couple of mismatched chairs drinking cheap red wine and scoffing crusty bread and chunks of fresh tomato smothered in olive oil. Delicious!
We came chasing the sun; apparently Lisbon is Europe’s sunniest capital. It’s sunnier than Athens and older than Rome. And if you’ve been here, you’ll know it’s hilly too.
The idea is to spend about a month pottering around Portugal. We don’t have much of a plan yet but as we sat at that little table, sipping wine and watching the world go by, an old saying came to mind: ‘Begin as you mean to go on, and go on as you began.’
Good advice, we think … very good advice indeed.

Sun, cheap drinks, bread and tomatoes sound like the perfect day!! 😉

We only had 2 days there, but loved it.
A day outing to Sintra is really worthwhile as well.

Oh Gayle. While the photos are brilliant, your stories that accompany them are amazing. Is there going to be a book published at the end of this adventure?? X
