The New Year is well underway, the weather is warming up (slightly) and we’re on holiday in Rome. Wonderful! We’ll spend at least a month here so we have plenty of time to become reacquainted with this remarkable city.
It’s more than 60 years since Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck scooted (and scootered) around here on their ‘Roman Holiday’ and, of course, much has changed since then. But in a city that’s almost 3,000-years-old, six decades is barely a blink and many places in Rome are still exactly as they were then.
My own Gregory and I have started our Vacanze Romane with visits to some of the city’s best known locations but, unlike Smitty and Joe, we’re travelling on foot and not zipping around on a Vesper; which probably is just as well because if there’s one thing about Rome that has changed it’s the traffic – it’s a lot crazier today than it was in 1953!
