One of the places we did travel to in Austria was Seefeld. This alpine town was once a small farming village; today it’s a major tourist destination especially popular with cross-country skiers. Seefeld has twice hosted the Winter Olympics’ Nordic events (cross country skiing and ski jumping) – in 1964 and 1976.
Last year we’d considered spending Christmas in Seefeld, but accommodation there is generally very expensive and booked out almost a year in advance. And, as we discovered, there’s also a casino in town.
Nonetheless we wanted to visit Seefeld and a day trip from Innsbruck seemed like a good opportunity. So what did we find? The town wasn’t nearly as busy as we expected; in fact it was quiet when we were there. And it’s pretty. Would we want to spend Christmas in Seefeld? Probably not. Are we pleased to have seen it? Absolutely.
