Last weekend Greg joined 15,000 screaming Chainsmokers’ fans at Unipol Arena in Bologna for the group’s only Italian show of their ‘Memories … Do Not Open’ world tour. Here’s Greg’s ‘Access All Areas’ report.

I’d be the first person to admit that electronic dance music (or EDM as we like to say) isn’t really my thing; it’s hard-core and it’s loud. But what do I know? In fact, EDM is incredibly popular and the last few years have seen young American group The Chainsmokers catapult to international success with their own brand of EDM-pop.

But the real reason I travelled to Bologna was to see my friend up there on stage. Australian Matt McGuire is the DJ duos’ drummer and touring musical director. I’ve known Matt for years and it was brilliant to see him perform live again.

The Chainsmokers’ show was spectacular; music, animation, pyrotechnics and lights. It was pumping, non-stop entertainment and the crowd – including me – loved every minute of it.

Though even better than the show itself, for me, was knowing what’s behind all the talent that’s up there on stage. These three young men are passionate about their work and professional in the way they go about it. Matt has worked hard to achieve success and now he’s enjoying its rewards. He’s an absolutely ‘savage’ drummer and I’m proud to be his friend.
