Just when I thought all hope was lost, I found a great hairdresser – Parrucchiere Binaglia Gianluca in Spoleto. The experience was great, the results were good and the people were lovely.
From the moment I stepped inside to be welcomed by a young woman with a big smile, a babe in arms and a toddler playing hide-and-seek around her legs, I knew this wasn’t your average hair salon.
Then there was the decor – a bit like Middle Earth meets the 60s. It’s unusual. And entertaining; you’d certainly never be bored in this place waiting for your colour to cook. But, as always, it was the people who made the difference.
This family-owned and operated parrucchiere opened in 1957. These days the business is run by Gianluca and his son Riccardo, but it was founded by Gianluca’s parents more than 60 years ago. His mother, now in her 80s, still works several days a week.
In this salon everyone knows everyone else and, although the haircuts are good, I suspect that’s not the only reason people keep coming back…many of them for decades!

Hi travellers. Great reading your stories. Good description of the hairdressers. Very different for sure. Hope you are both well. Looks like your both enjoying all there is on offer in Italy. I love your photos. I wonder how many churches you have seen? The flying Nun was a treat and the cheeses – oh my – heavenly. Take care. Lots of love, Claire
