Recently we were wandering home from the local grocery shop when we met an Italian Master Violin Maker (as you do).
Aaron Lorenzo Orfei is a ‘Maestro Liutaio’ (from the French word luth) which means he builds, repairs and restores stringed instruments.
Originally from Rome, Aaron graduated from the School for Master Violin and Bow Makers in Gubbio in Italy, and then went on to work with maestros both here and in Germany.
Three years ago he opened his own workshop in Bologna – just around the corner from us. When we stopped that day to admire his instruments, Aaron invited us in. Generous with his time, Aaron chatted happily about his work, describing the timbers and tools he employs.
He likened his skills to those of a cabinet maker and a heart surgeon combined; a single false move and it’s all over. And in the case of one of those beautiful violins, that would be about six weeks of work gone in a moment.
We’re delighted to have met Aaron. This maestro liutaio is a great young man building fine instruments for his customers, and a fine reputation for himself.

What a great story that was. And no doubt a lovely experience for you both. However as you open yourself up to such experiences they will then come to you. But that is how you guys live, so no surprise there. Keep the good times rolling. XX

We had a similar experience in Praiano where we met the local guitar-maker. Very special moments to treasure forever.
