Tradition has it that when Pope Pius IV’s envoy arrived in Milan in 1510, children shouted with joy at the sight of the gifts he’d brought. Cries of ‘Oh Beautiful! Oh Beautiful!‘ – in the local Milanese dialect – are said to have rung out.
It’s a story recalled today in the name of one of Milan’s largest and oldest Christmas markets, but it’s a phrase that applies just as well to so much else about this lovely city. Oh Bej! Oh Bej, Milano!

Hi U2…our trip into Milan was very brief (half a day actually) to drop our son there who travelled on to Croatia. Alas, we didn’t stop to drink in this wonderful city but did manage to view the Duomo di Milano. Viewing your comments now, it will have to be added somewhere on an itinerary of the future. I looked at your map and was surprised how many places you’ve already visited…we hope your journey continues to enrich your lives more and more…lots of love D&G
